Anti-wrinkle treatment

What is Botox and the mechanism of action?
Botox is one of many brands in the UK used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by causing temporary paralysis of the underlying muscles. It is produced from the neurotoxin Botulinum Toxin Type A that is derived from Clostridium Botulinum, an organism found in the natural environment where it is largely inactive and non-toxic. Botox works by inhibiting the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine thereby reducing the contraction of the muscles that cause the un-desired effects like frown lines.

Botox is used to treat:

  • Forehead (Horizontal) lines
  • Glabellar lines (11's) / Frown lines
  • Crow's feet lines
  • Brow lift
  • Bunny lines (Wrinkly nose)
  • Gummy smile
  • Smokers' lines
  • Drooping mouth corners
  • Dimply chin
  • Wide-Set Jaw
  • Neck Botox
  • Marionette lines
  • Hyperhidrosis

Forehead Lines

What causes forehead lines?
These are horizontal lines running across the forehead, which usually appear when you raise your eyebrows or are more stressed. It is a direct action following the contraction of the frontalis muscle of the forehead. The appearance of forehead lines can make you look a lot older than you are.

How are they treated?
Directly injecting into the frontalis section of the forehead helps reduce wrinkles and thereby gives you a more youthful and relaxed appearance.

Frown lines / 11's

What causes frown lines?
Frown lines are also known as 11's or Glabellar lines. These are lines that appear between the eyebrows when we frown. They are often the first wrinkles to appear on the forehead even as early as mid 20's. They can make a person look much older than they are and also make them look slightly angry. These are created by the dynamic action of the underlying muscles, corrugator, supercilii, and procerus.

How are they treated?
Botox is administered into the corrugator muscle thereby blocking nerve impulses causing it to contract. The muscle activity that causes the frown lines is significantly reduced creating a much smoother desired appearance.
