What is anti-wrinkle treatment and the mechanism of action?
Anti-wrinkle treatment is one of many brands in the UK used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by causing temporary paralysis of the underlying muscles. It is produced from the neurotoxin Botulinum Toxin Type A that is derived from Clostridium Botulinum, an organism found in the natural environment where it is largely inactive and non-toxic. Anti-wrinkle treatment works by inhibiting the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine thereby reducing the contraction of the muscles that cause the un-desired effects like frown lines.

Is anti-wrinkle treatment painful?
Any injection can hurt. However the needles used to administer the anti-wrinkle treatment are very thin and small so pain is usually minimal. Applying a topical anaesthetic cream or cold pack 10-20 minutes before the injections are given, can further reduce the pain if any, by numbing the area.

What causes drooping mouth corners?
The natural ageing process causes us to lose collagen and elastin. The overall result is that the skin loses its shape causing it to sag, forcing the corners of the mouth to droop.
How is it treated?
Droopy mouth corners can be corrected by injecting Botulinum Toxin Type A into the depressor muscles of the mouth. This can 'turn up' the corners of the mouth.
